At some point in our lives, we all encounter situations that defy explanation.

After my son’s diagnosis of mental illness, I became aware of the intangible aspects in both his and my life. The misperceptions, quixotic responses and tenuous mindfulness defined both our realities. I discovered that wire mesh had the potential for conveying these enigmatic states of mind.

The sculptures in this solo installation / exhibit give shape to some of life’s more ambiguous experiences. However, they’re not as much about mental illness as they are about that place in our mind where unknowing resides, where reality is fleeting. That place is Insula.
