A community-engaged project involving the residents of Henning, Alexandria, & Fergus Falls, MN; and Wahpeton, ND. This project involved my traveling to the various communities and engaging residents in hand-stitching a large fabric wall hanging which I had designed for the new Fargo Sanford Hospital. Along with this activity, I shared the poem Where I’m From by George Ella Lyon and asked each participant to respond with a few lines written on the backing of the piece. The finished piece is now hanging on the 8th floor of the hospital.

Kristi Kuder worked with Henning, MN students in December 2016, teaching hand embroidery on selfie photos. She returned in January for a 3-week open-studio, community stitching project at Henning Landmark Center, asking about the Places that formed Us. Over 80 students and various community members participated in hand stitching her “Homecoming” quilt, adding their names and quotes to the back of the quilt. “Homecoming” will be on permanent display at the new Sanford Hospital in Fargo, ND.
