Water has defined where I am from.
I grew up playing along the shores of Otter Tail Lake and the Red River of the North. I was born and raised in the rich flatland of the Red River Valley, which was formed by Lake Agassiz after it drained into Hudson Bay 10,000 years ago.
Using sunlight, water and cyanotype, I capture time’s passage through the ebb and flow of waves lapping on the shoreline.
Cyanotype is a photographic printing process that produces a cyan-blue print. The process uses two chemicals: ferric ammonium citrate and potassium ferricyanide. I apply these chemicals to watercolor paper and expose them to the waves and sun at Otter Tail Lake’s shore.
My “WaterMark” series will be shown at SD8’s upcoming group exhibit titled “Where We Are From.” The show is at The Phipps Center for the Arts, in Hudson WI, beginning October 23, 2020.
Please join me and my fellow artists in this exhibition for an artist talk on November 14, 1-3 pm, on Zoom. Register here.
